Asking Permission

When you ask for permission to use something that belongs to someone else you have to do your best to be polite. It is desirable to use the word "please."

Asking for Permission:

• May I go to the restroom? ------------------------------¿ Puedo ir al sanitario?
• May I go to drink some water?-------------------------¿ Puedo ir a tomar agua?
• May I go to refill my bottle? ---------------------------¿ Puedo ir a llenar mi botella?
• May I come in? --------------------------------------------¿ Puedo pasar?
• Can I stand up?--------------------------------------------¿ Puedo levantarme?
• Is it okay if I sit here?------------------------------------¿ Esta bien si me siento aquí?
• May I borrow your pen/pencil/sharpener...? -----¿ Me prestas tu lápiz/pluma/sacapuntas..?

Giving Permission / Refusing to give permission:

• Yes, you may. /No, you may not. 
• Sure, go ahead./No, you may not.
• Sure./ No you can´t
• Yes, you may./ No, you may not.
• Yes, you may stand up./ No you may not stand up
• Please feel free./ No, you have to stay in your desk
• Yes, you may./ No, you may not
